Artist Statement

Katie Holten
www.katieholten.com

Motivated by cultural, political and social circumstances, I am interested in creating works that contribute to an awareness of place while reflecting the vulnerabilities implicit in everyday life.

My interdisciplinary arts practice incorporates media appropriate to the situations that I find myself in and I make use of drawings, installation, temporary public artworks, sculpture, sound, printed matter, and living plants.

At the root of my practice is a curiosity with life's systems - both organic and man-made. My work is an ongoing investigation of the inextricable relationship between man and the natural world in the age of the Anthropocene.
