Artist Statement

I work in series that form narratives framed within a specific time period. Each series allows me to situate objects and images in unexpected contexts that combine abstract and representational elements. The correspondence of these concerns and materials are intuitive; a means to witness, realize and mark time. So it is a kind of memorial.

Long walks, taken since childhood, have always prompted me to collect and make things. It is also a way to welcome contemplation within Los Angeles. Through a labyrinth of places, my walks veer off the urban engineering codes that organize public space into a logical grid system. I walk to allow for encounters with ephemera; a kind of residue or detritus, either actual found objects or internal impressions. Walking allows me to come across objects that hold the trace of a human being. These objects and considerations are subsequently brought into play in my art.
