Artist Statement

" Le Territoire Du Crayon "

The astonishment of the first man before his first fire is for me like the experience of drawing.
The drawing underlines a possible way of looking at things in a stupor.
It is also a strength through which « I look at presence » -within all the possibilities of the moment and the lines.-

Mystery then becomes the keystone to a mental attitude which gives the drawing a starting point, erasing all the visible boundaries of a plausible space and time for the benefit of one ultimate moment : - a moment of perceptiveness before extinction, the last gaze of a last vision.
Before a menace or an illusion, something often appears from insignificance.

« A story » without meaning then interferes in the paper between the crossed out and the « drawn », between constellations, the line’s incision and the unusual significance of the inscribed words, as if sewn, they being also loaded with shadows and false perceptions.
This confrontation brings out the temporariness and absurdity of a fortuitous reality that never stops retreating and losing ground.

Figurative correlations and reminiscences between the drawings (a house, an injured character, a box etc…), without scale between the things and their environment, tend towards the destabilization of memory. The recognition of a pre-existant element which seems familiar as well as strange emphasizes « a vague memory », the feeling of « déjà-vu » as well as the inevitable feeling of loss ; the drawing then becomes a state similar to that of a sleepwalker…
