Artist Statement

The story of a transformation  O  come full circle

From this place I came

To this place I went

Up and down the mountain

Cupped by the sun

Cradled by the moon

This one I met

The first images are from one double-sided collage, made in the winter of 2005. I had been sorting thru my drawings. Three piles had emerged:

Drawing I would take to the dump so the paper might be recycled

Drawing I loved and would keep and care for because I would be heartbroken if they were damaged or lost.

Drawing that had something extremely precious to me: be it a color, a form, an idea, a shape, a feeling ... this pile became the source material for the collages.

During this process I had subscribed to an art magazine and I began questioning those making the decisions as to what was art in the first place. Who decides? Who chooses?

One day in a fury, I sat on the floor and tore out many images and began re-write the news. The resulting collage, titled “The Long Odyssey” (due to an article), to my surprise would end up double-sided a clear form of its own.

After that intense outburst, I took a good hard look at my own drawings: bravely, unravel, tear up, sort through, rediscover and claim my work as my own. “Seven feet by Nine feet and Seven Years Later” was the culmination of that process.

The charcoal drawings you see are kin to the drawings I was transforming. I saved from tearing a very few I particularly connect with like “The Letter” one could some day be “Reading”.

Theses words speak of the mechanics of the process, as the contents of this body of work continues to be revealed.

2008 her room grew from 7 ft by 9 ft and maybe 3 ft deep to 107" tall by 174" wide and 274" long until she literally took off the door, opened a window, and painted her-self out of the room:

In 2009 I began speaking further about other parts of my work in blog form ...

And in 2010 came the ability to work on drawing directly on my phone!  I now had an electronic sketchbook: the worlds of drawing, photography and multiples join anew, new questions emerge virtual drawings unique multiples...
