Artist Statement

In my work, I look at how our human sensibilities (intellect and spirit) overlap with the animal nature within each of us.  My drawings impart a sense of struggle and angst that indicates the conflict between simultaneous impulses, desires, and tendencies. Giving predominance to the instinctive rather than the rational.

The drawings are done in a visceral way. There is not much planning before the execution. It is more about reacting to what happens on the paper as I go along. New traces are laid on top of old ones and eraser marks, instead of becoming invisible, are used as new lines filled with light. In this way the entire process of making the drawing is exposed.
