Artist Statement

Modern society has made a shocking mark on the earth; the overwhelming evidence of our existence has spread to every corner of the planet. Aggressive development has left little wilderness preserved. Our discarded soda bottles, fishing nets, and other plastic debris tangle together to form the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in desolate ocean currents. Even beyond our atmosphere, where man can only visit, derelict spacecraft and satellite pieces orbit listlessly around the earth. Like Frankenstein’s creation, the uncontrollable produce of our existence has transformed these places beyond repair.

My paintings are imaginings of a post apocalyptic world. They are an act of catharsis, exerting control over an unknown future. Meticulously rendered, these landscapes are composed entirely of objects our society has created. Although disconcerting, I am captivated by the magnitude of these enduring effects. Long after we are gone, these remnants will serve as the record of our existence. Their power to communicate into the future is why I choose to make them the focus of my work.
