Artist Statement
In the elaboration of my work, I maintain a certain relationship in between nature and human underlining social rituals and human rationality. The wild, the mysterious, the unverifiable, the ambiguous, the strange tend to have a preponderant place on the civilized one. My artwork is then quite often inhabited by a story, by rituals and customs, the culture or the use of the environment that welcome it. I extend the memorialisation of experience and nostalgia that trail the romantic appeal of childhood. In my watercolor paintings, photographs,
installations and videos, phantasms, realism and nostalgia all merge to reiterate moments of tranquility, simplicity, innocence and utopia. In recent work, I relate to already lived scenes, I
often refer to « collective memory ». Memory of fugitive figures. Those human or animal presences, associated to precise details to their environment, confuse our first sensation. I present situations which provokes at times an « already lived feeling » that one can sense in brief moments, as « lightning bolts» or « daydreams ». To blur links in between reality and illusion, I’m looking for what can escape us but undeniably attract us without understanding the reason. There is a tight string between the immediate seduction and the « secondary effect » provoked by trouble and ambiguity of the associated elements which are hidden insidiously in my work.
The recurring aspect of my practice is inhabited by « mental after-images ’: I try to create a particular conjunction of circumstances, a persistent phenomenon, that resist… that one
cannot apprehend as a whole at first glance.
The irrational, the unnatural and magic are often evocated, our comprehension is coming up against a dissipated unknown which is presented to us, constantly renewing our efforts.
