Artist Statement

Simply stated, I am a mark maker and nothing more.  This making of marks, lines, scratches and strokes is central to my work and it leads, only incidentally, to an area that is about light, tone and texture. The pictures become simultaneously about the "micro" as each mark has a value that is weighed as its made…as well as the big picture that crystallizes in the process. In the end the pictures are meant to stand alone, showing an image or object as it might be viewed through a screen door. You only see some of the image, the rest being filled in by a function of grey matter.

Artist Bio / CV

Born in Chicago in 1955, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was a Fulbright scholar in Australia and have received a New York Foundation for the Arts grant and a Pollock-Krasner award. In addition to painting and drawing I have worked as a glassblower.  I live and work in Brooklyn.
