Our experience of the world and its ongoing geological and climatic evolution is the subject of this body of work. The flatness of the drawings and the physical nature of paint, and these paintings, positions a phenomenological dynamic. Our experience viewing the flatness of aerial and satellite imagery, parallels the experience of our personal, tangible interchange of our surroundings. The drawings and sculptural paintings are considered extensions of each other as they traverse and overlap that in-between state of our perceptions.
The accumulation of frozen water and various stages of melt in polar topographies are mirrored in studio processes, using an accumulation of inches-thick acrylic paint, which has been carved, formed into pieces, peeled, and stacked. The works on paper are comprised of accumulated layers of processes from printmaking, to drawing, painting, collage and debossing.
