Artist Statement

My work is concerned with the relationship between what is imagined and what is real. I explore the aesthetics of combining “ready-made” materials, such as fabric and graph paper, with my own conceived patterns and color schemes.  When working on graph paper, the grid becomes a template or skeleton for an infinite number of variations in pattern and color. My drawing practice is consumed by what can live within this predetermined, man-made, environment. The subtle shifts in my mark making, against the perfectly printed grid, create a nervous energy. The marks allude to patterns, which are familiar, but still peculiar as hand drawn forms. My patterns and color choices are reflective of domestic ornamentation. The intense, rhythmic  mark making brings to focus the often obsessive repetition  present in the objects of our daily lives.
