Artist Statement
I use special papers to create my art works. Example are very thin handmade Japanese papers , regular Japanese paper, bamboo paper, Korean paper, and paper fiber with Japanese Sumi. My works include a variety of mixed media, such as printing, dyeing, painting and collage. The theme of my artistic expression is ? TOBOSO?.an ancient word, which means ? gate? ? border? or the relationship of inside/ outside, black/ white, light/ dark, and so forth. The word of TOBOSO is currently used only traditional #Noh plays. An example for understanding TOBOSO is in the stone border in the traditional Japanese art of #the formal tea ceremony. To arrive at the tea hut from the waiting arbor, the guests follow a stone path. There# KEKKAI, the stones that are marked not to be stepped upon, and stones that constitute the path. TOBOSO in my art in the concept of black / white or negative/ positive using GANPI, a Japanese paper that I think best reflect my feeling of TOBOSO for me, this darkness/ brightness of TOBOSO has an expression of the universe. The feeling I express in this piece is that the light is reflected through the translucence of the layer of paper, similar to a Japanese screen or door ? SHOJI?.
