Artist Statement

I slowly apply the ink onto the paper, stroke by stroke, inch by inch. The original is lying by my side, a picture taken from the internet, a picture copied from a book, a photo taken during a trip. Slowly, slowly the picture is transmitted from the original to the large stretched paper.

I have thousands of originals to choose from, hours is put down on the hunt for the next one. Internet is like a treasure hunt, the same with the library, the grains of gold is there and if I'm lucky I will rush into a whole golden vein. One by one the pictures is downloaded into folders, printed and stapled together into booklets. In my studio they lay around, I go thru them now and then, some time I found the picture that is to be drawn, sometimes not.

I make a copy of the chosen picture, I tape it up alongside my stretched paper and so the process begins. I'm sitting in front of the paper and the hours role by. I like to see the drawing take form in front of my eyes, I start at the left side of the paper and slowly make my way to the right side. When I'm at the right side, the drawing is finished. The perspectives have been skewed and the drawing has been shifted away from the original.
