Artist Statement
The New York Times drawings are a series of painstaking tracings of individual words from the front section of the daily newspaper. I am disturbed by language in the media that renders anonymous the victims of war and genocide. Tracing these tiny references to nameless individuals (for example: “16 killed”) recognizes them in some way, and results in unexpected combinations of words that form small text constellations.
