Artist Statement

The Need to Project

My work involves amassing information about and byproducts of my day-to-day habits as a consumer. The information and remnants of consumption are organized and sometimes reconfigured to permit reflection and analysis of my acts of consuming.

Quantifying the extent of my factual knowledge and experiences has been a continual interest in my studio practice. The simple question of “What don’t I know?” serves as the foundation for measuring the level of my knowledge of words, dates, and events. I seek to remove information that I already know while preserving information that I do not know in order to isolate and focus my attention on the unknown.

Lists are another primary focus of my studio practice. The act of list making engrains experiences in my memory and in some archival form (paper, digital information, etc.) I have begun to use these lists as a database of information from which I can begin to determine if there are trends in my daily habits.

All this data and material remains serve as an archive and evolving source for my studio practice. These and other projects taken together are my attempts to catalog, analyze, and even predict my daily rituals as a consumer.
