Artist Statement

As an artist I explore urban and rural areas. My research focuses on spatial transformation processen and their relation to social, economic and political actualities.

Spaces in transition are often characterized by silence and vacancy. They arouse my curiosity in their recent history and importance. Inaccessible areas entice me as explorer to enter. Public, crowded spaces fascinate me in their rare moments of human absence.

Based on my explorations I set up my drawings, which are usually a view into, or through, a space that fascinated me because of the objects I saw here. I reduce these spaces to one black shade covering up all the material objects. My drawings appear as dark rooms: the longer you watch, the more you see. People are totally absent in my work. It are the objects which, as traces of human actions, tell the stories and make the suggestions of what might have happened before the building was abandoned.
