Artist Statement

My studio practice is informed by issues of identity and culture, and by my engagement with materials. I am concerned with exploring space, and the possibilities and measurements of the human body in relation to it. The interdisciplinary nature of my work allows me to explore the issues and questions at the core of my concerns, and reflects the broad range of interests from which I draw to create my work.

The presented work investigates place and space by referencing architectural forms. These works explore histories in the form of cityscapes, neighborhoods, urban fabrics, and my childhood growing up in the 70's. I am engaged with ideas of regeneration and renewal: what is lost and what is attained through the destruction and construction in the flux of our relentless self-transformation.

As natural landscapes and traditional structures are being destroyed, our history is being erased. The present moment marks a period between the erasure of the past and the arrival of the future. We are suspended in this empty moment after the end of one history and at the beginning of yet another.
