Artist Statement

In crime scene, there is the person as the subject of activity. We call easily him or her as 'Monster', but the focus is not always simple. In huge detective stories and dramas, just they are about finding 'Monster' with following evidences and we feel relaxed and enjoyable when Monster is caught by detectives. Through all the media, we can experience all kinds of positions as victim, detective, witness, Monster, accomplice. At the same time, we got every justification of every situation. We forgot the huge crack through unconscious indulgence, and forgot to forget. Like Nina in Urasawa Naoki's 'Monster'

Why does violent history repeat? Why do people make stupid mistakes continuously? Why do I possess violent images with guiltiness thought I hate the violence and sensuality and I hate to see violent and sensual images? Why cannot I enjoy those without guiltiness? My works start at these stupid questions. I'm in masochistic and simultaneously sadistic desire.

Untimely repetition. Similarity of two images between images (Movie still of 'Salo, 120days of sodom', and pictures from Abu Ghraib Prison) is not from the way of copy. 100 years old novel, 30 years old movie, 3 years ago real. It is more reasonable the similarity belongs to inner essence of us. It is not changed by media. It is very surprised that the crossing point without intersection exists, the extreme similarity between sensual images that the authority products, and political image that pornography makes, also.

For the first time, I thought my interest belonged to the interest of violent history, but nowadays I recognized my concern follows the interest of cultural anthropology from violent historical fact and relationship.
