Artist Statement
The works reflect a continuous search for bold and powerful images whereby sensitivity, skin and texture are important features. This results in organic, often bodily, shapes that evolve into more abstract and monumental images. Sometimes recognisable body-parts or landscapes emerge in drawings of different sizes & formats from miniature to complete wall coverings. Often different images (drawings) are layered on top of each other within the one drawing resulting, literally and figuratively, in stratification. The use of various mixed techniques optimises this effect. Ambiguous shapes are created consciously to stimulate the associations of the spectator. The line is an important and dominant element in the works. Although research into the line is often the motive & the goal leading to abstract works they sometimes also result in landscape drawings albeit wild abstract. Another recurring theme is the male body with, in recent works, a distinguishable head or face. In several works different themes are combined making for a broad spectrum.
