Artist Statement

My work relates to my childhood experiences with water, or more precisely my fear of water. Depicting feelings of suffocation, emptiness, and the desire to regain the self, this current body of work explores confinement and liberation through the physicality of the materials. As a painter working three-dimensionally, my process is influenced by historic and natural moments of deconstruction/construction and enlightenment as expressed through dialectic reasoning. The resulting artwork reinterprets the sublime in its use of contrasting materials and conveys the tension between traditional notions of abstract painting and the expanded palette of contemporary practice.
