Artist Statement

My work centers on installations and drawings which deal with questions to and issues about nature and art as well as naturalness and artificiality.

The focus of my work is practical and documents my efforts to understand that the relationship of these concepts is currently unclear and conditioned by unclear assumptions.

It is not nature as a whole, but a whole concept of interwoven ideas that is at stake. The aim is not to criticise a specific way of interaction with the environment, but to make visible the confusing relationship. It is also a discussion of the known and unknown.
In my work I constantly try to establish a connection between poetry, a sense of humor and the questions named above, as well as an interdependence between shape and material. As a consequence, I see my work as a process combining these four.
To achieve this, I employ a playful handling which always questions the found-out on its consistency, establishing an oscillating relationship between what is known and what is strange.
At what point do natural phenomena become artificial?
What does it mean when nature is not whole anymore, but still natural?
How can I use objects in my work which are supposed to look like nature or at least natural, and how can I use nature or natural objects if they are supposed to look like art?
Where does art begin and where does nature stop? Where does artificiality begin and at which point to we talk about naturalness?
There are many different approaches dealing with these questions, which means that I have numerous ways to discover what is there, but also to discard it, but above all not to understand or even to be unable to understand. This means that I search for answers, often even without knowing the question.
