Artist Statement

My drawings evolve from an interest in language and numbers as systems of symbolic abstraction. Relating to nature, natural laws and patterns, as well as the human need to structure and order, these drawings explore an alternate vision of space and time.

I begin with a simple system of graphing words and word groups that emerge in dreams and journals. I take these accumulated bits of language, and then map them into both coherent and incoherent structural formats on the page or ground. Playing with ideas of folding space, time that moves both forward and backward, patterns and grids that twist and shift dimension, I build drawings that mine for meaning in the unknowable, unseeable, and subconscious dimensions of existence.
