Artist Statement

Carl Scorza Artist’s Statement

The figure is becomeing increasinly more importent in my work and my working process is become more of the theme. The role of drawing is taking place more on the computer and in the form of collage from multiple source. I use advertisements as a ready source of cultural commetary and make a painting from that and then photograph it and cut and past images from other sourse and then paint from that again. But the collage is emerging as the most interesting product of this process. The piece just added is the first one that has no other form.

I think of my work as an alternative to realism. I prefer the idea of equivalence. I look for the relationships between the mark and the form and make equivalents to those relationships. The work will share the experience of seeing and have a sense of the real.
