Artist Statement

The geometric archetypes of circles and polygons form the building blocks for my recent drawings. The endless possible combinations and variations of these forms provide a ‘magic well’ from which I draw my inspiration. Balancing geometric regularity, fractal complexity and shifting levels of scale, intricate linear networks emerge unexpectedly as the drawing progresses. Although constrained by the edges of the paper the unfolding networks extend well beyond this limitation. At any moment in the drawing process the tip of the pen on the paper can point the way to the finite or the infinite.
Displayed here are two sets of drawings; Scrolls exploring centers and pattern transitions along a horizontal format and Verticals exploring the dynamics of a singular geometric theme as it develops from center point.
