Artist Statement

My inspiration in drawing is the experience of a single line, itself a record of that experience. In the repetition and rhythm of a drawn line, I am trying to represent, visually, the space of an experience that inherently has no form. I want to convey the pleasure and the pure abstraction of drawing itself. That required sense of being there must come from the materials and the moment, and from the inward view I have of actually directing this inspiration. I remain aware that the inspiration is the experience itself and line and mark are foremost to this. At various times when working on such a large scale and with materials to draw in space, drawing then becomes a physical experience. The process becomes the exploration of the sculptural and performance possibilities of drawing.
