Artist Statement
none “One has to leave time”, explains Susanne Schossig, to devote oneself completely to this extremely time-absorbing activity – a luxury that finds its pictorial equivalent maybe only in art during our contemporary time, so dominated by claims to perform efficiently.  In this sense, Susanne Schossig’s often large-formatted drawings are unusual reservoirs of time.  Extended into space through installations, they open up a freedom to find the time for leisure and spiritual absorption. These works appear to be time-less, in contrast to the kind of life economy that is based on a frame of thought and conduct that tries to achieve a maximum of profit with a minimum investment of time.  The notion of efficiency that dominates every facet of our working world today and even our leisure time, poses a glaring contrast to the time-consuming, maybe even intentionally lavish loss in time.

3. Movement in the Black These drawings consist of several layers of black and white structures done in china ink. The subtle wave like a movement within the dark areas allows some of the lightness of the white structure to emerge from underneath the black structure.Serie of 16 drawings on cardboard ( 2005 – 2009.) 60 x 60 cm
