Artist Statement

My artwork has always been about the push and pull of positive + negative space. I always attempt to make a piece of artwork that has no visual hierarchy; where each part of the piece has its own details and qualities.

The art that I make deals with the micro and the macro, the large and small, the overall composition and the minute details that compose it. The mind instinctively will form something out of what appears to be random and chaotic. I try to make a a visual field where the viewer can bring there own experience and create what they see. That way the piece of artwork is never static, whoever looks at it never sees the same thing.

I attempt to let the imagery flow from me and not be overly conscious and controlling. The most interesting artwork for me is one where the artist is merely a conduit and that the final piece of work is completely different from what is originally intended to be.

BIO

My name is Shane Ingersoll and I was one of 5 kids born in a 15th century converted barn in Cavan, Ireland. We moved to the states when I was young and our family spent the next 15 years moving around the U.S. Places like Durango, Colorado, Santa Fe, Mexico and St. Augustine, Florida (just to name a few.) After college I moved back to Europe and ended spending the next two years living in Ireland, Portugal, and the Netherlands. I decided to move back to the states and ended up living in sunny Portland Oregon with my brother, his girlfriend, and a brown dog.
