Artist Statement

For the past five years, I have been developing systems for tracking, organizing, and charting information, and creating drawings that represent that information. The purpose of my work is to investigate subjects that fascinate and excite me, and to share my intensity and love for these subjects with others. I have produced two main bodies of work in this vein: The Baseball Project and The History of Metal.

The Baseball Project, created from 2003 - 2005, tracks the performance of the Boston Red Sox over three seasons. I created a different system each year, based on the statistics generated by the games played. These systems were represented by large scale drawings, which were shown together as an installation.

The History of Metal was started in 2007, and is still in process. At the heart of this project is a large timeline drawing, where every heavy metal band that every existed will be represented. Additionally, I am creating "support" pieces that complement the timeline and give futher insight into the origins, growth, and breadth of heavy metal music.
