Artist Statement
The drawings in this series explore the patterns found in natural structures, such as the ribs and ridges of shells and the formations that make up ice crystals and those patterns that are constructed, such as sewing and crochet diagrams. I am exploring the shift between the organic and the man made, sometimes within the same piece.Created through repetitive mark making and color washes, each drawing surface alternates between the visible and the submerged, shifting between defined and obscured imagery. The images are isolated on the page, sometimes uneasily, as if they will break through their allotted space and bump into and over the edge, switching between stillness and motion.
