Artist Statement

help!

Artist’s Statement  With a frugality of means, in spontaneous activity , through the primary means of markmaking and drawing, I seek to engage with my surroundings, the spaces I am in, and to enter into the transient flow of artmaking and of existence itself. I continually mark and erase on surfaces - from my studio or garden walls, to gallery spaces, to urban and natural sites.

My practice had developed away from traditional artmaking to more ephemeral, action-based means of exploration in different locations, using traditional and locally gathered natural and man-made materials. But it has now returned to my first love, drawing, incorporating site and live performance as part of my drwing practice. Drawings can be my daily practice on the studio wall,  large scale wall installations, drawing into books, or live action,  site drawings that include erasure and transformation,  drawing into books. The work incorporates ideas of the void, of flux, of dissolution and chaos, of visual deconstruction of texts, to ceremony and meditation.
