Artist Statement
This various series of drawings are composed as a domain that traces the formation of a “Mountain” within its territory over time. The computer screen/the paper acts as the surface of encounter between the single pixel and the framework set, as to the limitations and construction that embodies it.

The basic element consists of the single pixel that is the essence of the whole. It is a pre-defined, non-changing element which expresses itself as black on white/white on black. The choice for a monotone black and white landscape results from reducing my elements to their simplest point. I like to work within a tight and controlled paradigm because the framework allows to see what happens between that which I can inflict control over, and that which has a life and course of its own.

The default paint software in windows, where I create my drawings, is simple and easy to control. Using a mouse rather than a pen or a digital board allows me to be more conscious in my drawing process. Every mouse “click” builds continually on the other. I balance the areas of black and white and set them in relation to each other. This continual evaluation process is always according to the moment of my interaction with it and the way the piece itself demands for a harmony within its constraints. Once the file is closed, so to the drawing is completed, yet once it is reopened it could undergo a new set of interpretations.

Due to the simple digital nature of the software and the overall structure within which a user, computer, or program operates, I can modify the construction in a continuous process. The drawings evolve with no point of completeness. The landscape on the screen becomes an ever-changing natural phenomenon that allows me to question the dynamics of how a landscape is constructed over time.

Thus, all the landscapes I draw are in a never-ending transformation process just like mountains or volcanoes themselves, both in their construction and erosion. It is always a new version of a landscape that emerges.
