Artist Statement

Drawings role within my current practice is one that is very central and important. I use drawing as an imaginary space to reflect on the actualities of reality.

Within the current UNIT series of drawings, Key characteristics of the drawings are their lack of adherence to the rules of gravity and the attempt of a consistency of perspective.  The UNIT drawings came after a series of UNIT sculptures and out of a need to find a point of completion for the work. Each UNIT sculpture did not seem to come to a point of completion and many varieties of UNIT sculpture were made before starting the drawings. A variety of coloured papers were chosen and a system of limited elements was imposed to construct the drawings. They are not a reference to a possible sculpture. They are abstract drawings at the same time as alluding to concrete objects. There are 171 UNIT Drawings in the series.
