Artist Statement

For me understanding the dynamics of the surrounding world comes from my daily questioning of a sense of self and our place as humans in a space that is ever changing. My work deals with the use of heavy machinery as a metaphor for humanities achievements and failures. The usage of tools is a means by which it has separated itself from the rest of the animal kingdom; in doing so the development of these tools are all products of the first tool. The hand.

This is very important to me and the work that I make. The greatest tools I have are my hands. In my experience as a maker of things and images. All of the tools that I use are appropriate for the task at hand. I am continually trying to create spaces and images that are visually tactile. So much so that I want you the viewer to want to touch these things. To engage them with your hands. To use them.

These tools that I see, touch, and use to make new work, are things that I relate to as I visually build these objects and images in my head. I do not see myself as a creator of new things but a builder of objects that reinterprate the world I interact with. A world that is always changing and always exciting.
