My artistic interests lie in realist observational drawing. I work with graphite on paper and am most interested in drawing’s originality and capabilities when it is unenhanced by technology. Therefore, I work carefully from observation and constantly challenge myself in terms of what I am able to see, replicate, and interpret. My drawings are of found textures and objects, from the home or from nature, that provide me with the difficult task of translating what I see and feel in actuality into a drawing that is not merely technically correct, but a truthful expression of the subject matter and experience. Resisting today’s popular demand for the big picture, this work is an exploration of the small details and everyday banalities that are often ignored in our fast-paced culture.
