Artist Statement
For unknown reasons I have always been fascinated by drawing, ever since I was a child.
I feel comfortable about myself and feel alive when I’m drawing.  It’s the only time I belong in my skin.
I think people are failed by words.  Language is a trap.  I have always lived in cities, first Kobe, then Tokyo and for the last twenty years in New York.  These places have a similar background hum of agony and envy and distress.  This has been the main theme of my art for a long time.
Traveling abroad, away from cities, I found that being close to the ocean and the wind, in the forest with birds and trees and flowers, the background hum is not there.
Now my work is mostly based around this connection between human and non-human.  I try to find clues to the origin of the connection by going deep inside my mind and drawing.
