The whole of my work is centered on drawing. It is expressed on all types of surfaces, such as paper, fabric, glass, and plastic. Also with different tools: brush, pencil, scissors, thread and needle. The techniques that I use are often taken from popular art (monotype, painted glass, embroidery…) The human body is my main source of inspiration. Its inside and outside, its wounds and its vivid memory. Skeleton, organs: ex-votos, precious jewelry protected by the skin which is in turn protected by clothing. Clothing, the body’s covering. The human body is a relic, a base for work dealing with memory. I try to recover and relate said memory with prints (monotypes, carbon drawings), superposing, transparencies, and fragments. And, as if images could revive memory or even each other, I group them together, mirror them, put them in opposition, I create contrasts or complementarities. My most recent work has been embroidery on fabric or plastic. To embroider is for me a means of reflecting on memory, such as families’ memories (passing on by women of embroidered linen in former times, a bride’s dowry, transitional objects). Since embroidery as a custom has today disappeared (in the western world, anyway), many are those that go to flea markets looking for cotton sheets with embroidered initials. Not only for the embroidery’s charm, but surely also to read and revive a family’s memory that has perhaps since vanished, since that particular linen was never passed on. Embroidery is also a means of inventing one’s own family history, or finding the memories of the body that has wrapped itself in the sheets at night, from beginning to end. I want to imagine that these bodies impress their whole lives on fabric. Embroidery is also a commentary on time, for it is an anachronistic and inconceivable thing in today’s world where taking one’s time is a luxury. It is going against the grain, asserting the necessity of slowing things down in order to look at them.
