Artist Statement
Green space amongst the debris and pollution of the city has recently become a recurring theme in my drawings. I would like to create a new drawing that brings together the various images that have built up through my exploration of abstracted architecture and deconstructed landscapes. The space in my work stacks upon itself

My previous work depicts playful yet devastated landscapes. The abstractions were strange, isolated, and desolate. I then, however, noticed an abandoned building on my way to work. A full lush meadow had sprung up on the roof of a derelict parking garage and the grass was over two feet high. I could even make out a few wild flowers poking through the sun-drenched field. I wanted to be in that field, but could only catch a glimpse everyday as the subway rattled me along. After this, with the image of the green over the concrete, I began to incorporate deliberate greenspaces into my work. The green was on top of or hanging from the more permanent and stable structures. I became very interested in the hanging gardens of Babylon, the vertical farm movement, planned parks, and roof top planters.
