Artist Statement

Main motivation for my engagement as an artist, with growing importance over the years, is to achieve a status/expression in which rational thinking / motives based on thoughts and words become less important and finally irrelevant. This can enable the sender / the artist, but also the acceptor / viewer to reach a status of "no-mind". Viewing things in this way gives us the chance to see the world as it is. As long as we are searching for a logic explanation, we will see the explanation (see the words) but not what it is. Art can therefore, via using the channel of visual perception, connect a growing world of thinking and words with a space that lies beyond and cannot be expressed in words.

The lines flow out of my pencil, my fingers, myself. They tell a story. Create a kind of sea - a sea full of reflections and depths. The drawings talk in a language beyond words and thoughts and emotions. Phases of "no-mind flows" are followed by moments of coming back to the surface, adjustments and orientation.

I work with graphite, caracole, and since a while also with tablets creating digital drawings. The enclosed pictures are part of a series of over 30 digital drawings and were created using a Wacom tablet, developed as high quality digital Lightjet prints and finally mounted behind 4mm acrylic on 2mm Dibond. Using a presentation technology commonly used in photography, I create a connection between photography and abstract art. I invite the viewers to project in my abstract pictures perceptions of reality. They might try it by using their imagination, recognizing familiar forms and landscapes in my abstract drawings. Leaving these imaginations behind in a next step, they may serve as a doorway to enter a level of perception that lies beyond and is similar to the one in which these drawings were created. Furthermore, seeing the reality in an abstract drawing shall show the viewer that the perceived difference to a photography is an illusion (this becomes even more visible by seeing in addition the abstract picture in a realistic photography).
