Artist Statement
The order on a desk, urbanist ideals and the sex education of the 70ies, these are some topics of my work, which I develop into work series after a detailed research. The procedure is always similar: along with the conceptual realization of the thematic idea I experiment with pen, pencil and paper till an appropriate visual language is found. This then becomes the basis on which each series is developed over a period of months and years.
At the centre of this process are large format drawings or paper objects which are, for example, inspired by the formal characteristics of geographical maps, pattern repeat or the half-tone dot. While at work, I am fascinated by the line, as it is precisely set by hand and supposedly controlled, letting the drawings appear almost machine-made. This meticulous and time consuming process allows me to test the limits of drawings, objects and of my own hand.

Images 1 - 10:
Series Stadtleitbilder (ideals of urban spaces)
Diagrams of city ideals of the 19th and 20th century which represented an ideal conception of urban space in that time form the basis of the drawings of the series. The respective scheme is mirrored along the horizontal and vertical axes, so that it multiplies itself into a pattern. Thereby the formalism particular to the original sketches transforms the drawings into a multiple repeat.

Images 11 - 15:
from the Series Schreibtische (desks)
In the space of two years nine different people – among them a scientist, a composer, a hotel manager and a student – were visited and their desks were mapped in their normal circumstances between two appointments or during a break.
