Artist Statement
In continuing my exploration of the perceptual relationship between what I paint and what my eye constructs, I use matte, closely valued colors and keep my geometric constructions elusive. Each small work on paper can appear almost monochromatic while also containing an interior pictorial window. Slowly visual dichotomies emerge: A shift of color turning a form inside out; a flat surface opening into deep space; a form unfolding at alternate speeds. The anticipation and uncertainty of change in these small worlds surprises and feeds my engagement with painting and seeing.
