Artist Bio / CV

Julia Kim Smith is an inter- and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores issues of identity and the social and political landscape. Her projects take the form of new media, performance, video, film, photography, printmaking, and craft. Smith’s debut solo show at The Creative Alliance, a collaborative installation with writer David Beaudouin on the post-9/11 American psyche, was hailed by Glenn McNatt, The Baltimore Sun, as “a stupendous achievement of minimalist, conceptual art that ought to forever lay to rest the idea that such work is no more than a dry intellectual exercise. This is art of unflinching intelligence, great passion and overwhelming emotional impact.” Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally and has been featured in Angry Asian Man, AnimalArt F City, ARTINFO, Baltimore MagazineGQ, Hypebeast, HyperallergicJuxtapoz, Kidrobot KRonikle, Oasis Magazine (Saudi Arabia), Racebending.comShortList (UK), The Atlantic, The Baltimore Sun, and The Washington Post. Smith is an A.I.R. Gallery National Artist, Brooklyn, New York, and serves on The Creative Alliance’s Board of Trustees, Baltimore, Maryland.
