Artist Statement
In the past I have used and manipulated radar imagery of storm systems to serve as a stand-in for depression, heartache, or any other emotive synonym. My current works have dealt with the breakdown/dissipation of digital images of weather radar and TV programs, as well as photographs of the late singer Karen Carpenter, the Designing Women character, Julia Sugarbaker, my mother, and me.

Presently, I am interested in what it means to cover-up or void out a representational image of these specific celebrities and women, with the same marks that signify the storm. It is as if you can watch something becoming a memory. The attachment to Karen Carpenter and Julia Sugarbaker is derived from their conflicting roles of celebrity and real-life person. The larger than life pop star and southern feminist characters are made relatable in their human deaths. In my work there is a sense of pixilated erasure; what WAS has been overtaken and silenced by a seemingly non-objective series of marks and colors. Moments in life and the people involved in them seem to dissipate and leave, much like a storm system.
