Artist Statement
My artistic research approaches widely the notion of space and time in different fields such as architecture, urbanism, collective or individual memory, and is made visible through media such as video and installation. Drawing plays an important part in the work, often indirectly made visible in a video work or applied directly in a space or in a landscape, using the respective space, the city or the landscape as a canvas.
In my work I often make the passing of time tangible, or I am mapping the history of a place in a very subjective way. Some of my installations and in-situ drawings reconstructed the (possible parallel) histories of the space, inciting the visitor to start a spatial discovery that leads to the past, present and future of the space. This way, the visitor develops a spatial insight through his own bodily presence. For these spatial transformations I try to suggest rather than really build something. Instead of building or physically deconstructing the space, I play with perception, using the suggestive power of the space.
Since 2006 I am part of the temporary collective Potential Estate and I also work in collaboration with the artist Ronny Heiremans on an ongoing project ‘A.I.R’ which examines architecture as a significant ideological gesture. We have been developing A.I.R as a series of mediated extensions of our habitat.
