Artist Statement

For a while now I have been making paintings and drawings, using a set group of fictional characters situated on a table top. These figures enact an inter-play of psychological and cultural forces. They are drawn, on the one hand, from personal observations of popular culture: I think about why figures from popular culture have an unrecognized and unexplored realm of appeal, relating to mythic archetypes. On the other hand I draw from a personal understanding of those figures, as they were acted out in my own family, in real life situations. This series of drawings has over the years evolved into a very complex narrative.
