Artist Statement

My projects are driven by an analysis of the mass media as well as the processes of accumulation, archiving, and record keeping. These projects are monumental works that speak to: a common history, memory, institutional power structures, and the passage of time.

I collect headlines and photographs from different media sources including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Newsweek.   I use this information as data for systems that generate complex drawings and sculptures.  I spend thousands of hours photocopying microfilm in order to reproduce the exact font and size of the headlines and images. Over the past five years I have accumulated a huge mass of these photocopies, which I then sort, organize, catalogue, enter into the computer, and color-code. This process is ongoing and more information is continuously added to each project.
