Artist Statement
The renderings represented here come from a larger series of drawings and paintings based on mass-produced consumer goods.

Although having an aversion to some of these grocery store commodities I find myself in constant contact with, I am nevertheless perversely drawn to draw some of them. The same seductive packaging designs and product details that manipulate me to purchase and use these ordinary items are some of the same enticing aesthetic qualities that persuade me to give them tribute in portraiture. I am interested not only in the look of these certain packages, but also how rendering them reveals certain autobiographical particulars about my life. All kinds of habits, idiosyncratic preferences and details are all unveiled. The series as a whole betrays intimate information such as my diet, the kind of pets that I have, and my geographic location can all be deduced from certain brand labels. Since creating some of the works, the packaging of certain products has already changed, or in some cases my affinity for them has waned. In these ways, the works have become like time capsules marking a certain place in time.

In the midst of the current worldwide economic collapse, these drawings also represent the culture of consumerism and become meditations on materialism.
